The One Lift I’d Cut From Starting Strength

If you had to remove one lift from Starting Strength, which one goes? Squat, bench press, press, or deadlift?

Starting Strength Coach Grant Broggi has been coaching the program since 2013, and his answer is the bench press. Not because it's a bad lift, but because it's the number one place he sees injuries, especially in guys in their 40s, 50s, and 60s coming back to training after years at a desk. Grant explains why the press is the most underutilized lift, why back tweaks in the squat and deadlift are usually less serious than people think, and why the deadlift is the easiest place for an older lifter to start.

His big three: squat, press, deadlift.
