How To Not Get Injured Doing Starting Strength

Do people get hurt doing Starting Strength? Yes. Is the program the reason? Usually not. Starting Strength Coach Grant Broggi has coached lifters for 13 years, and the pattern behind almost every injury is the same: someone who's been sedentary for a long time, or was strong years ago, comes back and makes jumps too fast.

The novice linear progression is already conservative. Moderate weight on day one, then 2.5 to 5 pounds per workout. That's 15 pounds a week and 60 pounds a month on the squat and deadlift. It adds up fast, and you don't need to rush it. You can't undo 45 years of sitting in 45 days.
